Exterior Foundation Protection
Foundation Waterproofing in New Jersey
Foundation waterproofing protects your home's foundation from water damage by addressing water at its source — outside the foundation wall. HomeCraft Paving & Masonry provides exterior foundation waterproofing throughout North and Central New Jersey, including waterproof membrane application, drainage board installation, and footing drain systems.
Exterior Foundation Waterproofing
Exterior foundation waterproofing involves excavating around the foundation, cleaning and preparing the exterior wall surface, applying a waterproof membrane, installing drainage board to protect the membrane and direct water downward, and installing a footing drain to collect and redirect water away from the foundation. This comprehensive approach addresses water at its source before it can reach the foundation wall.
Waterproof Membranes
We apply high-quality waterproof membranes to exterior foundation walls. Modern waterproof membranes are flexible, durable, and provide long-lasting protection against water infiltration. The membrane is applied to the cleaned and prepared wall surface and must be installed correctly to provide continuous coverage without gaps or voids.
Drainage Board
Drainage board — a dimpled plastic sheet installed over the waterproof membrane — serves two purposes: it protects the membrane from damage during backfill, and it creates a drainage plane that directs water downward to the footing drain rather than allowing it to accumulate against the wall.
Footing Drains
A footing drain — perforated pipe installed at the base of the foundation — collects water that reaches the footing level and directs it away from the foundation to a suitable discharge point. Footing drains are an essential component of an exterior waterproofing system.
When Exterior Waterproofing Is Appropriate
Exterior waterproofing is the most comprehensive foundation waterproofing solution, but it requires excavation and is more expensive than interior drainage systems. It is most appropriate for new construction, when the exterior is already being excavated for other reasons (such as a retaining wall or drainage project), or when interior drainage systems have not been effective.
